About The Position

The Executive Council Office is looking for experienced, strategic and innovative leaders to fill future vacancies as communications directors with the Communications & Marketing Division. Communications & Marketing is a full-service communications and marketing division serving all other provincial government departments, agencies and boards. Reporting to a senior director of departmental communications, communications directors lead communications activities for government departments and agencies and serve as the principal advisor to the minister and senior management on the communications implications of all departmental initiatives and activities. As a director, you work closely with key partners and stakeholders across government to ensure communications activities in your department are aligned with government priorities and initiatives, effectively managed and responsive to the diverse information needs of the public.

Requirements

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent coordination and planning skills
  • Familiarity with a broad range of communications and marketing tools and media
  • The ability to develop and implement innovative and creative communications solutions
  • The ability to work independently, to be part of a professional team, and to manage multiple priorities.
  • University degree or two-year college diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related discipline.
  • Pay Band 7: A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • Pay Band 6 - A minimum of six (6) years experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Written and spoken competence in French and English. Others require written and spoken competence in English. Please state your language capability.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating, writing, planning and organizing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing communications and media relations activities and initiatives for their assigned department.
  • Coordinating media relations, issues management, event planning, stakeholder relations and marketing activities within their department along with the central support team.
  • Serving as the principal communications advisor to the minister.
