About The Position

HEABC leads and supports the strategic planning related to human resources and labour relations on behalf of British Columbia’s publicly funded health employers. HEABC is responsible for negotiating provincial agreements for 138,000 unionized health care employees including nurses, physician residents, ambulance paramedics, health science professionals, and more. HEABC’s Human Resources, Strategies & Services (HRSS) department is responsible for the administration of a number of Health Human Resource initiatives across the province. The department includes Health Match BC, Locums for Rural BC, Practice Ready Assessment BC, the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry, and Compensation and Classification services. Requirements

  • A degree in communications, journalism or a related field and five to seven (5-7) years’ related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Strong technical writing, public speaking, presentation, strategic planning and leadership skills.
  • Experience updating and using various CMS and social media platforms.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines with accuracy and within budget guidelines.
  • Ability to handle a number of projects simultaneously and establish priorities.
  • Ability to produce publications using knowledge of accepted journalistic standards, editing, layout and design including maximum use of new technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic communications counsel to the President & CEO, the Senior Director, the HEABC Board, and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Establish messaging frameworks and communications standards to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance HEABC’s profile and strategic positioning with members and partners.
  • Act as the designated spokesperson on behalf of the President & CEO, as required.
  • Maintain strategic relationships, and work with the media, the provincial government, HEABC members, and key public sector partners and communications contacts to ensure coordinated, accurate, and efficient communication.
  • Monitor media coverage and develop media relations strategies.
  • Lead the planning and execution of HEABC’s annual award ceremony.
  • Working closely with the Board Liaison, lead the planning for HEABC’s AGM, including the production, development and publication of all related communication materials.
  • Lead the preparation of communications, presentations, briefing materials, and messaging for organizational events, all-staff meetings, leadership forums, and other internal engagement activities.
  • Oversee the management and ongoing optimization of HEABC’s intranet.
  • Lead, develop, and manage the communications team, including hiring, scheduling, determining compensation and managing performance of staff.
  • Manage the departmental budget, planning, and resource allocation.
  • Promote staff learning, engagement and contributes to organizational culture.
