About The Position

Reporting to the Vice-President, Policy, Public and Legal Affairs, the Director, Communications and Engagement provides strategic leadership for the NCC’s corporate communications and engagement functions. This role oversees the planning, development and execution of integrated communications and engagement strategies that advance the NCC’s mandate, strengthen public trust, and enhance organizational reputation. The Director leads multidisciplinary teams responsible for strategic communications, internal communications, media relations and issues management; digital communications, marketing and content strategy; graphic design and linguistic services; public, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement and consultation; and partnerships, outreach and client services. The Director also ensures the delivery of inclusive, accessible and compliant communications and engagement approaches, aligned with Government of Canada legislation and policies, and reflecting best practices in public sector engagement.

Requirements

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience in Communications and public relations.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience in Public and Indigenous engagement and consultation.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience in Development and implementation of engagement frameworks and strategies.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience in Leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex, high-visibility initiatives.
  • Knowledge of communications, marketing and public relations principles and practices, Government of Canada communications frameworks and legislation, including: Official Languages Act, Accessible Canada Act, Best practices in inclusive, accessible and Indigenous engagement and consultation, Public sector governance, stakeholder relations and reputation management.
  • Ability to lead in a complex, fast-paced and high-profile environment with competing priorities.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, interpret data and trends, and provide strategic insights.
  • Ability to anticipate risks, manage sensitive issues and deliver sound, innovative solutions.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
