About The Position

The Director, Commercial Airborne Power has P&L responsibility for the Commercial Airborne market within BAE Systems' Power Systems business. This role leads market strategy, customer relationships, growth, and overall business performance. The Power Systems portfolio integrates energy storage, power electronics, and system-level controls and integration to address complex electrical power challenges in commercial airborne, transit and vocational vehicle, and other demanding applications. This leader will connect market and customer needs with product strategy and business priorities, determining competitive strategies, winning approaches, and investment areas for sustainable, profitable growth. The initial assignment focuses on the Commercial Airborne Power market, with an emphasis on growth, including developing strategies for commercial aircraft electrification and electrical power opportunities, building relationships with aircraft OEMs and propulsion providers, shaping opportunities leveraging BAE Systems' capabilities, and positioning the business early on future aircraft platforms to influence architectures and requirements. The role involves converting emerging technologies and development programs into scalable, certifiable production businesses and identifying partnerships and adjacent opportunities to accelerate profitable growth.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience in complex engineered products, systems, or technology businesses.
  • Demonstrated experience with P&L / business performance, market leadership, product-line leadership, or comparable commercial responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing market / customer strategy and driving profitable growth.
  • Experience building and managing senior-level customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across functions and influence decisions in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong commercial and analytical judgment, including development of business cases and investment decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Aerospace or other highly regulated / safety-critical industry experience.
  • Electrification, energy storage, power electronics, controls, or integrated power-systems experience.
  • Experience with long-cycle product development and transition from development into production.
  • Experience working with aircraft OEMs, propulsion providers, or other complex OEM customers.
  • International business / customer experience.
  • Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own market P&L performance, including revenue, profitability, investment, pipeline, and lifecycle economics.
  • Develop and execute market and customer strategy, including growth priorities, competitive positioning, and adjacent opportunities.
  • Build trusted relationships with strategic customers, partners, and industry leaders.
  • Understand customer strategies, technology roadmaps, market trends, regulatory drivers, and competitive dynamics.
  • Identify, shape, qualify, and capture new business opportunities.
  • Translate market insight into prioritized requirements and partner with Product Leadership to shape energy storage, power electronics, and system-level control and integration roadmaps.
  • Develop business cases and recommend where the organization should—and should not—invest.
  • Balance near-term customer commitments and business performance with long-term product and market growth.
  • Build alignment and lead across Product Leadership, Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, and other functions to translate market priorities into executable business plans and deliver P&L commitments.
  • Develop the strategy for commercial aircraft electrification and electrical power opportunities.
  • Build relationships with aircraft OEMs, propulsion providers, and strategic technology partners.
  • Shape opportunities that leverage our capabilities in energy storage, power electronics, and system-level controls and integration.
  • Position the business early on future aircraft platforms and influence architectures and requirements.
  • Convert emerging technologies and development programs into scalable, certifiable production businesses.
  • Identify partnerships and adjacent opportunities that accelerate profitable growth.
