About The Position

As a Director, Business Strategy focused on Cloud Financial Operations, you will partner with VP+ engineering, product, and platform leaders to shape strategic decisions across Indeed's cloud ecosystem, including cloud infrastructure, AI/ML workloads, data platforms, and multi-cloud environments. You will manage a 9-figure cloud estate, lead a team and co-create financial and technical models. You will guide multi-year technology investments, architecture decisions, capacity commitments, unit economics, and cost governance aligned with business priorities. You will develop industry benchmarks and cloud usage analyses that influence major technology strategy, optimize cloud commitments, and enable cost-aware engineering decisions. By translating complex technical and financial concepts into clear executive narratives, you will guide C-suite and board-level discussions, support vendor negotiations, and drive platform strategies with measurable top-line and bottom-line business impact. Working across engineering, product, finance, and platform teams, you will promote a decentralized FinOps culture that empowers product teams to balance cost, innovation, and business outcomes while influencing senior leaders without direct authority. You will also manage and develop a FinOps R&D team, fostering technical excellence, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement in a rapidly evolving environment. Success in this role requires deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems architecture, AI/ML platforms, and FinOps best practices, along with advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, cloud financial management tools, and data-driven decision making.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience; or a PhD with 8 years experience
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner required; ability to demonstrate attested knowledge to manage cloud fin ops according to industry standards
  • Experience driving business strategy, planning, and performance management in complex organizations.
  • Experience managing or influencing P&L outcomes, including revenue and cost optimization.
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Experience working across functions to align priorities and drive execution.
  • Leadership experience, including managing teams and influencing senior leadership.
  • Effective communication skills, including experience presenting to executive audiences.
  • Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems architecture, AI/ML platforms, and FinOps best practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, cloud financial management tools, and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Manage annual business planning processes, including defining objectives, setting targets, and aligning investment priorities.
