About The Position

MU Health Care is seeking a high-impact leader to own and elevate Clinical Engineering and Healthcare Technology Management across the health system. This newly established, visible role will oversee system-wide operations supporting medical equipment and clinical technologies essential for safe, effective care. The position is strategic, responsible for guiding service delivery, regulatory readiness, capital planning, vendor strategy, device integration, healthcare technology lifecycle governance, and long-range operational standardization. Reporting directly to the Health System COO, this leader will have significant visibility, influence, and enterprise-level impact. The Clinical Engineering department is poised for growth, service optimization, and capability building, with opportunities to expand internal support models, strengthen workforce depth, improve performance tracking, and shape future-state strategy. This role requires decisive leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive operations forward, viewing complexity as an opportunity to build a stronger, smarter, and more scalable operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, healthcare technology management, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.
  • Seven (7) years of related experience in biomedical engineering or clinical technology services, with at least three (3) years in a leadership role.
  • Clinical Engineering (CCE) certification by the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE) or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) certification by the AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI), or equivalent professional credential.
  • Experience in a large academic medical center or integrated health system.
  • Proficiency in medical device connectivity, IT integration, and clinical systems interoperability.

Responsibilities

  • Leads departmental strategy for biomedical and radiology equipment technologies, aligning operations with health system goals and emerging models of care.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and performance standards to ensure quality service delivery, regulatory readiness, and operational excellence.
  • Oversees clinical engineering, biomedical support services, radiology equipment technologies, and equipment lifecycle management, including acquisition, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning.
  • Guides the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies and capital equipment in collaboration with clinical and administrative stakeholders.
  • Directs compliance with all applicable and relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Establishes and manages the departmental budget, including forecasting, capital planning, and cost-containment strategies.
  • Leads vendor negotiations, manages service contracts, and oversees all service strategies to ensure optimal performance and value.
  • Drives innovation and standardization in equipment integration, device connectivity, and interoperability with clinical information systems.
  • Collaborates with Information Technology and Clinical Operations to optimize the safety and effectiveness of connected medical devices.
  • Leads departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Leads a culture of safety through proactive risk mitigation and continuous quality improvement, taking measures to evaluate regulatory readiness routinely. Monitors and analyzes safety and performance metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions for staff and/or patients as appropriate.
  • Oversees the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care across units.
  • Directs the implementation and oversight of MU Health Care time and attendance policies and practices.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
