This leadership role in the Claims department oversees the handling of Workers’ Compensation claims within an assigned region. The Director will guide and develop Claims Managers and Analysts, manage complex claims from assignment through closure, evaluate coverage and exposure, establish reserves, negotiate settlements, coordinate litigation efforts, and help mitigate medical exposure. Responsibilities include providing direction to third-party administrators (TPAs), collaborating with internal partners to ensure effective claim handling according to procedures and authority levels, and ensuring the quality and consistency of the team’s claim handling. This involves assigning claims, conducting audits (desk and settlement reserve), completing performance appraisals, reviewing claims, and training new handlers. The role also involves overseeing aggregate claims, coordinating TPA audits, evaluating TPA performance, and supporting the approval process for new TPAs and self-administration requests. Collaboration with Underwriting on large losses, problem accounts, and jurisdictional developments is key, as is partnering with Medical Management, Audit, vendor partners, outside counsel, and other stakeholders. Travel for claim and TPA audits may be required based on business needs. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the St. Louis Corporate Office.
