About The Position

This leadership role is within the Claims department and focuses on overseeing the handling of Workers’ Compensation claims within an assigned region. The Director will guide and develop Claims Managers and Analysts, manage complex claims from assignment to closure, evaluate coverage and exposure, establish reserves, negotiate settlements, coordinate litigation, and mitigate medical exposure. Responsibilities also include providing direction to third-party administrators (TPAs) and collaborating with internal partners to ensure effective claim handling according to procedures and authority levels. As a people leader, the role involves ensuring team quality and consistency through claim assignments, audits, performance appraisals, and training. The Director will also oversee aggregate claims, coordinate TPA audits, evaluate TPA performance, and support TPA approval processes. Strong partnership building is essential for collaborating with Underwriting, Medical Management, Audit, vendor partners, outside counsel, and other stakeholders to achieve effective claim outcomes. Travel for claim and TPA audits may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • 10 or more years of experience in Workers’ Compensation claims adjusting with an insurance carrier or Third-Party Administrator.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook applications.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • This position allows for a hybrid work schedule which includes a minimum of 3 days per week in our St. Louis Corporate Office, located at 1832 Schuetz Rd. Saint Louis, MO.
  • All employees are required to submit work from home requests and follow our Work From Home policy, which will be provided to all candidates selected to interview.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the handling of Workers’ Compensation claims within an assigned region.
  • Guide and develop Claims Managers and Analysts.
  • Manage complex claims from initial assignment through closure.
  • Evaluate coverage and exposure, establish reserves, and negotiate settlements.
  • Coordinate litigation efforts and help mitigate medical exposure.
  • Provide direction to third-party administrators.
  • Work closely with internal partners to ensure claims are handled effectively and in accordance with established procedures and authority levels.
  • Assign claims, conduct desk and settlement reserve audits, and complete performance appraisals.
  • Review open and closed claims and train new Claims handlers.
  • Oversee aggregate claims within the region.
  • Coordinate TPA audits and evaluate TPA performance.
  • Support the approval process for new TPAs and self-administration requests.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting on large losses, problem accounts, jurisdictional developments, and account-specific matters.
  • Partner with Medical Management, Audit, vendor partners, outside counsel, and other stakeholders to drive effective claim outcomes.
