About The Position

The Director, Carrier Procurement manages department resources in the task of managing relationships with our top carriers and initiates standardized processes to ensure bidding activity for carriers contributes to growing value for the entire Hub Group network. This position is responsible for working with Hub Group Operations to manage and promote carriers in the network, and focus on opportunities that increase carrier volume, relationship efficiency and customer satisfaction. Serve as an industry expert, understanding transportation market trends, indices and forecasts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics and or related fields.
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in third-party logistics, in operations and/or customer facing role.
  • 5 years’ experience in leadership/management role.
  • Solid understanding of transportation and logistics principles, economics, and supply chain network behavior.
  • Knowledge of Transportation industry preferred.
  • Outstanding leadership abilities including problem solving, interpersonal communications, goal orientation, teaching/coaching, self-discipline and systemic thinking.
  • Excellent communications skills; presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written.
  • Customer service/interaction skills and experience.
  • Computer Proficiency (Word, Excel, Databases, Internet).
  • Problem solving skills; ability to use good business judgment and make decisions.
  • Ability to travel as the business requires.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities as well as flexibility to adapt to change with new systems and methods while working in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Transportation industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Source opportunities for improved performance and/or improved margins.
  • Work with account Operations, Sales and Executive Leadership to identify, qualify, and progress potential new opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and goals for carrier base.
  • Oversee QBR’s for Hub Groups top Carriers.
  • Seek new business opportunities with our top vendors to maintain balance and improve margins.
  • Identify opportunities which increase value and efficiency for our carriers & or our customers.
  • Research and identify carrier market pricing for new business opportunities assessments with our top carriers.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to staff through a project/bid to ensure the expected outcome is achieved.
  • Establish performance goals/expectations and accountabilities for self and staff members.
  • Raise any concerns or issues related to resources, financial performance and service levels with account owner/sales or senior management.
  • Oversee department resource planning and execution.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time.
