Director, Card Production

Fanatics CollectiblesSeattle, WA

About The Position

Fanatics Collectibles is building the future of trading card games. The Fanatics TCG studio is focused on creating the next generation of global trading card game franchises — combining compelling intellectual property, innovative gameplay, and premium collectible objects. At the center of this effort is the card itself. We are seeking a Director, Card Production to build and lead the systems, processes, and partnerships required to bring our cards to life — from early design through final printed product. This role will define how cards are created, managed, and manufactured at scale. You will be responsible for building the end-to-end card production pipeline, including internal tools, asset workflows, file preparation, and external printing and manufacturing partnerships. The ideal candidate combines deep production expertise with strong systems thinking, and understands how to deliver both precision at scale and excellence in physical product quality.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of experience in print production, physical product development, or trading card/manufacturing environments.
  • Experience building or managing production pipelines at scale.
  • Strong understanding of prepress, printing processes, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience working with or alongside technical teams to build production tools or systems.
  • Ability to operate across creative, technical, and operational domains.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with trading cards, tabletop games, or collectible products.
  • Familiarity with card and paper production systems and workflows.
  • Experience working with global printing and manufacturing partners.
  • Background in color management, materials, or print technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Build the End-to-End Card Production Pipeline: Define and implement the card production workflow from concept through print-ready files.
  • Establish systems for card data, templating, versioning, and asset management.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to determine what should be built internally vs. leveraged from existing capabilities.
  • Help define and prioritize requirements for card toolsets and databases.
  • Develop Internal Tools & Infrastructure: Work with technical teams to build or adapt systems for card creation and templating, rules and text integration, asset tracking and version control, and file output and print preparation.
  • Ensure systems are scalable, flexible, and support long-term franchise needs.
  • Own Print-Ready File Creation: Establish standards and processes for prepress, color management, and file preparation.
  • Ensure all card files meet the technical specifications required for high-quality printing at scale.
  • Build workflows that minimize errors and ensure consistency across large card sets.
  • Lead External Manufacturing Strategy: Define requirements for paper stock, finishes, printing techniques, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Partner internally to align on printing and production capabilities.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with external printers and manufacturing partners.
  • Ensure final products meet standards for durability, playability, and collectible quality.
  • Bridge Creative, Product, and Manufacturing: Work closely with Creative, Design, and Product teams to ensure that card designs are production-ready without compromising vision.
  • Provide guidance on what is possible, scalable, and cost-effective in manufacturing.
  • Help translate creative ambition into practical, repeatable production systems.
  • Establish Quality Standards: Define and uphold quality standards for card feel, finish, color fidelity, and overall presentation.
  • Implement QA processes across both digital files and physical production.
  • Ensure consistency across sets, products, and print runs.
