About The Position

USAA is seeking a dedicated Director Business Strategy and Planning to lead a team responsible for driving key strategic initiatives and operational routines for the P&C Underwriting and Product Development organization. This role involves fostering proactive, systems-based thinking to translate association priorities, business needs, and operational insights into a clear strategic direction, multi-year roadmaps, and detailed operating plans. The Director will lead their team in supporting strategic planning, governance processes, and routines to ensure initiatives remain aligned, integrated, appropriately sequenced, and positioned to deliver intended outcomes. This role requires active partnership across multiple functions or business units, operations, communications, and association stakeholders to create visibility into strategic work, identify dependencies and risks, and drive informed prioritization. The team will develop executive-level strategic narratives, planning frameworks, and decision-support materials to enable leaders to balance long-term vision with practical execution while maximizing organizational impact. Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 8 years of directly related business planning consultation experience to include experience leading the development of business strategy for short-term and/or long-term goals.
  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.
  • Experience influencing and managing communication to senior executives, internal colleagues through concise, official and regular updates on status, progress, strategies and roadmaps.
  • Strong business acumen in financial services or related industry, and a proven ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation skills.
  • Extensive experience working with clients/customers to realize business issues and develop a strategy for the business's direction from the gathered insights.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of strategic planning professionals that execute initiatives, including analysis, oversight and support of business strategy development.
  • Work closely with Executive Management to create, communicate, execute and sustain the strategic business plans that are aligned with USAA Strategy and the Transformation Plan.
  • Provide insight to industry best practices and competitive analysis to support the business plan.
  • Lead Executive Leadership Team member(s) and/or senior executives in the development of short and long-term strategic business goals and vision, encourage high-level strategic thinking, and support development of business-unit and functional strategies.
  • Facilitate, influence, collaborate and establish accountability across senior leadership for strategic direction, planning and action.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain policies, standards, and procedures as it relates to the USAA strategy framework.
  • Oversee critical risks associated with business objectives and activities to ensure they adhere to and support the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Mature and facilitate the strategy management process in alignment with Function or Line of Business strategy to drive a robust capability in strategy formulation, strategy management, performance management processes and deliverables in coordination with 1st and 2nd line.
  • Oversee the identification and oversight of the required planning budget for the organization to include financial management and adherence and tracking against the approved budget.
  • Conduct business strategy reviews to set the Function or Line of Business growth strategy and assess progress of strategy achievement.
  • Oversee a team of employees responsible for supporting the development and communication of business plans; drive accountability and provide guidance to team members through performance management and development.
  • Build and oversee a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
