Learn more about BNSF and our Benefits. The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. The department is committed to maintaining integrity and recognizing the company's successes, ensuring that BNSF remains a leader in the railway industry. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected. Travel is possible as determined by business need but approximately 25%.

Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience in finance-related field, as applicable.
  • The successful candidate must be capable of influencing cross-departmentally with leaders at all levels.
  • Good relationship building and interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Requires the ability to lead and inspire a team and to develop direct reports.
  • Applicant must be a self-starter and have the ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks and demonstrate the ability to organize team efforts to accomplish common goals.
  • Candidates must have strong analytical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective communication skills are essential.
  • Applicant must be able to adjust readily to multiple demands and shifting priorities.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and ability to quickly analyze and synthesize complex data from various sources.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Ability to understand budget systems, financial accounting, and capital planning principles is essential.
  • Strong business savvy and problem-solving skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA and/or public accounting experience
  • Master’s Degree in accounting or a related field
  • Engineering, Operations, Accounting, Budget and/or Planning experience

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage the Engineering Expense Plan to ensure BNSF is using its resources as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Supervise and develop a team of budget managers.
  • Act as a liaison between the Engineering and Finance departments in the following functions:
  • Assist in preparation of strategic plans for the Operations Department and provide detailed supporting financial information.
  • Oversee and improve forecast processes to monitor annual and monthly spend.
  • Develop and implement control enhancements to improve the overall governance surrounding budget areas and the usefulness of information provided to stakeholders.
  • Identify cost savings initiatives and develop strategies to implement and monitor those initiatives.
