The role The Director, Brand and Creative Marketing will define how the future of digital surgery is seen, understood, and experienced. This role is responsible for building a bold, modern, and human-centered brand that challenges category norms and builds a new narrative in a market long shaped by a single dominant player. Asensus Surgical, now part of KARL STORZ, is uniquely positioned to disrupt a historically conservative industry by combining deep clinical credibility with market-leading technology and customer-centric solutions. The Director will translate this advantage into a compelling global story, one that resonates with surgeons, inspires internal teams, and signals to the market that a new chapter in surgery has begun. This leader will own the brand vision, narrative, and creative expression across every touchpoint, from flagship campaigns and product launches to congress presence, digital platforms, and surgeon experiences. With a clear mandate to be bold, the Director will build and lead a high-performing Brand and Creative Team, partner closely with product, clinical, and technology leaders, and push the organization beyond incremental marketing toward category-defining storytelling. This role requires balanced fluency in strategy, creativity and execution. The ideal candidate is energized by unchartered territories, motivated by impact, driven by purpose and excited by the opportunity to build something that does not yet exist.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in brand, creative, or integrated marketing leadership roles, with a proven track record of building or transforming brands in complex, technology-driven, or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated success defining and activating a differentiated brand narrative.
  • Proven ability to lead bold, insight-driven creative strategies and campaigns that challenge category norms while maintaining credibility and trust.
  • Experience building, leading, and scaling high-performing creative and brand teams, including designers, writers, content producers, and agency partners.
  • Strong strategic instincts combined with exceptional storytelling and creative judgment.
  • Experience working effectively within regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and cross-functional leaders.
  • Track record of partnering closely with product, engineering, clinical, and commercial teams to shape integrated go-to-market strategies and launch moments.
  • Experience leading and managing external creative and strategic agencies.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, high-growth, or transformation environments.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to craft and deliver compelling narratives that inspire confidence, align stakeholders, and drive decision-making.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in business, communication, marketing or related field.
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time for conferences, customer visits and surgical case observations.

  • Own and define the global brand vision and narrative for Asensus Surgical, establishing a clear, differentiated point of view.
  • Lead the creation of a new category story, reframing how surgeons, hospitals, and the industry think about digital surgery, clinical intelligence, and the future operating room.
  • Challenge legacy conventions in med-tech marketing by introducing modern and experience-driven storytelling grounded in clinical credibility.
  • Serve as the creative and narrative authority for the company, with responsibility for how the brand is expressed across every touchpoint, from product launches and congresses to digital platforms, training environments, and internal culture.
  • Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing Brand and Creative Team, attracting top creative talent and fostering a culture that rewards curiosity, experimentation, and bold thinking.
  • Conceptualize and deliver breakthrough global campaigns and launch moments that generate attention, energy, and conversation in the surgical community.
  • Partner deeply with Product, R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Medical Education and KARL STORZ Global Marketing teams to translate advanced technology into human-centered narratives that resonate emotionally and intellectually with key actors in our value chain, from surgeon to surgical teams and c-level hospital executives.
  • Define and elevate the brand experience, shaping how the brand is felt through training, simulation, demonstrations, events, and digital interactions.
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership, helping shape the company’s long-term vision, external perception, and market positioning.
  • Lead and direct external creative agencies and strategic partners, pushing for best-in-class creative quality while ensuring speed, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Introduce new creative approaches, formats, and technologies (e.g., immersive, experiential storytelling) to keep the brand at the forefront of innovation.
  • Balance bold creativity with compliance and responsibility, ensuring all brand and creative outputs meet regulatory, legal, and ethical standards without sacrificing impact.
  • Measure and evolve the brand through clear success metrics, using insights and data to continuously sharpen storytelling and creative effectiveness.
  • Represent Asensus Surgical externally as a modern, forward-thinking voice in digital surgery, partnering with KARL STORZ while maintaining a distinct and progressive brand identity.
