About The Position

BluEarth is seeking a Director Asset Management to provide strategic leadership for the Asset Management team, focusing on operational excellence and continuous improvement. This role involves working with the COO to enhance Asset Management capabilities, systems, and procedures in alignment with corporate goals. The Director will lead a diverse technical team, manage their professional development, and ensure collaboration with remote field operations and other business units. Key responsibilities include overseeing the asset management system, developing governance, establishing KPIs, considering whole-life costs, integrating corporate systems (CMMS, Condition Monitoring, SCADA), managing change, root cause analysis, and budget planning. Additionally, the role is accountable for the safe and successful operation of the BluEarth Remote Operating Centre (BEROC), ensuring compliance with NERC standards, and driving client satisfaction for BEROC's third-party services. The Director will also provide leadership for SCADA and Performance Analytics, ensuring data quality and the development of a robust analytics program. Finally, the position involves providing strategic direction for reliability and maintenance services, supporting CMMS implementation, overseeing investigations, and optimizing spares and inventory management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation recognized by APEGA or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial power generation operations experience
  • Demonstrated competency in a leadership role
  • Experience managing a technical team through change, including identifying and prioritizing needs of the operating portfolio now and as it grows
  • Experience establishing and developing necessary governance including procedures, workflows and policies for a technical services team
  • Strong technical knowledge of renewable electricity operations including functionality and design of turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant components
  • Experience working under NERC standards and compliance programs
  • Experience selecting, implementing, and integrating systems and software within a technical organization
  • Familiarity with CMMS, CMS, SCADA and SCADA overlay systems and software
  • Experience working around high, medium, and low voltage equipment, understanding of LOTO and Utility Protection Code systems
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret technical documents such as safety regulations, NERC and other utility systems standards, electrical market rules, technical work instructions and other procedural documents

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership of the Asset Management team’s pursuit of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Identify needs, establish priorities, and action ongoing improvements and refinements to Asset Management capabilities, systems, and procedures in alignment with operating portfolio needs, and corporate goals.
  • Provide outstanding people-focused and values-based leadership to a group of diverse technical experts.
  • Manage the technical and professional development of team members, and ensure collaboration of the team with remote field operations and other business units.
  • Accountable for the successful implementation, function, and evolution of the asset management system in line with corporate policies.
  • Lead the development and updating of necessary governance for asset management functions as the Company grows based on identified needs.
  • Establish key performance indicators to support measurement and benchmarking of performance.
  • Ensure whole-life cost is considered, including operational availability, operating risk, and mandatory requirements (health, safety, regulatory, financial and security).
  • Oversee the integration and optimization of corporate asset management systems including Computerized Maintenance Management, Condition Monitoring, and SCADA systems.
  • Oversee the effective use and continuous improvement of BluEarth’s Management of Change, Root Cause Analysis, and asset management audit processes.
  • Oversee short and long-term operational and capital budget planning and monitor budget compliance.
  • Accountable for the safe and successful 24/7/365 operation of BEROC, working closely with the BEROC Supervisor to ensure safe operations, operator competency, and high performance.
  • Support BEROC Supervisor to develop, execute and continually improve procedures, work instructions, and training programs for BEROC staff.
  • Ensure regular, open dialogue and effective communications between BEROC and operating facilities and staff to ensure alignment, coordination, and collaboration are maintained.
  • Develop and implement BEROC programs, projects, and resource planning aligned with industry best practice, and growth of the BEROC-monitored portfolio.
  • Oversee short- and long-term BEROC operational and capital budget planning, and monitor budget compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC and power system operator and other jurisdictional requirements for existing and new power markets BluEarth enters.
  • Drive a high level of client satisfaction for BEROC’s third party clients and support the Operations Commercial team in all associated commercial contract and client relations activities.
  • Provide leadership to the team by assisting with prioritization of operational, growth and commercial tasks, and by identifying opportunities for optimized function and efficiency across the team.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of necessary data management processes and governance to ensure high-quality, timely and trusted data is available to support all reporting and analytical requirements of the organization.
  • Oversee the growth and development of a robust and effective analytics program and associated processes to provide timely, high-quality and action-oriented information on the operating portfolio.
  • Ensure SCADA support is appropriately prioritized between growth opportunities as well as existing operations and remains a strategic strength.
  • Provide strategic direction to the team as it establishes and expands internal reliability and maintenance services within the operations organization.
  • Support the implementation and development of our CMMS system, maximizing its value through expanded functionality, appropriate governance, and timely evolution as the needs to the operating portfolio grows.
  • Oversee the completion of necessary investigations, root cause analysis, and technical reviews, ensuring that lessons learned are effectively communicated.
  • Oversee the optimization of spares and inventory management within the organization, working collaboratively with site, commercial and procurement teams in process development.
