Department Overview Walker & Dunlop Investment Partners (WDIP) is a real estate private equity firm that manages capital on behalf of endowments, foundations, pension plans, private funds, insurance companies, family offices, and high net worth individuals. WDIP invests debt and equity capital in value-added, opportunistic, distressed, and special situation transactions through a series of private funds, joint ventures, and separately managed accounts. The Impact You Will Have The Director, Asset Management will play a key role on the WDIP equity asset management team, with responsibility for enhancing and scaling the institutional asset management process. This position leads the management of investments from acquisition through disposition and supports the firm’s continued shift toward a cradle-to-grave investment approach. Working closely with a team of WDIP professionals, the Director drives asset performance, ensures alignment with investment strategies, and supports key decision-making across the portfolio. This role requires strong collaboration, proactive communication, and a deep understanding of real estate equity investment, along with the ability to adapt as team structure and responsibilities evolve over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7+ years of asset management experience, ideally with an owner-operator
  • Experience in multifamily real estate strongly preferred; industrial experience is a plus
  • Experience with financing processes, loan modifications, and restructurings strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience evaluating complex real estate investments
  • Deep working knowledge of real estate markets, trends, and investment concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn internal systems
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage or delegate multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed
  • Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes
  • Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with sponsors to execute property-level business plans
  • Monitor and analyze property performance against budget, underwriting, and market conditions
  • Oversee workouts, restructurings, and loan modifications for legacy investments
  • Track local market fundamentals, including competitive trends, new supply, and sales comps
  • Evaluate disposition timing and strategy and ensure proper distribution of cash flows
  • Track investment performance, including gross IRR and equity multiples
  • Partner with acquisitions prior to closing to finalize business plans and review partnership and loan documents
  • Prepare memos documenting key decisions, including business plan changes, refinancing, and legal amendments
  • Review and approve capital calls, distributions, and loan draw requests
  • Maintain standardized reporting to track performance, variances, and forecasts at the property and fund level
  • Prepare quarterly investor reports and support fair market valuation processes
  • Ensure sponsor compliance with partnership operating agreements
  • Partner with senior management to implement strategic systems and process improvements
  • Drive best practices to improve efficiency across asset management processes and procedures
  • Mentor and support the development of junior asset management team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned
