About The Position

This is a twelve-month, full-time non-tenure-track faculty position that will be the Director and faculty member of a new Health Sciences academic program within National Louis University. The Director and Open Rank Professor of Health Sciences will be responsible for overall leadership in the implementation and management of the new program. The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership, work extensively with external partners, lead course development and maintenance, hire and supervise faculty, provide oversight to practica experience, and work across NLU departments to build the program, including enrollment, admissions, graduate programs, advising/coaching, career bridge, and student finance. This position is grant-funded.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Health Sciences or related field, Doctorate Degree preferred.
  • Five plus (5+) years professional experience in higher education, particularly in settings working with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence, ideally in a university or college setting;
  • Ability to consistently connect instruction to its real world relevance, tying in concepts and theories in the classroom to students’ current and future work experiences and highlighting immediate applicability;
  • Successful project management experience including serving as the lead on complex initiatives.
  • Track record of experience cultivating and developing external partnerships with demonstrated successful outcomes.
  • Advanced proficiency in the utilization of technology and data systems for analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Advanced conflict management and negotiation skills across all populations - students, faculty, field supervisors, and partners.
  • Develops and executes action plans to drive intended impact, engaging stakeholders and adjusting course as needed to ensure on-time and high-quality results.
  • Demonstrated experience with organizational development and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Set vision and provide oversight of Academic Programming in undergraduate Health Sciences department at NLU.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and/or provide oversight to the development of new courses and revisions in the discipline in accordance with industry standards.
  • Lead weekly or bi-weekly department team meetings to develop an effective student experience, reviewing curriculum implementation, instructional planning and student data to inform ongoing planning and continuous improvement.
  • Review course/major data quarterly and annually, in collaboration with UGC administration and department faculty team, in order to inform ongoing course and major enhancements and to explore opportunities for course/concentration/major additions.
  • Use an efficient scheduling model to ensure students have enough course options to continually progress toward graduation, class sizes that maximize resources, and flexible enough to customize academic pathways.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to regularly create and maintain a hiring network in subject area creating a pool of hiring options for full-time and adjunct faculty positions, reviewing candidates, perform initial interviews and make recommendations for hire to leadership.
  • Choose/select instructors to staff for all courses in the content area (contracting done by NLU administration).
  • Supervise and meet with faculty on a regular basis to ensure progress on their goals and instructional excellence.
  • Collaborate with UGC administration and UGC faculty to ensure a comprehensive approach to faculty PD is in place.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the Annual Program Review and Assessment Plan for Health Sciences in order to ensure the program meets all key performance indicators identified by the university.
  • Lead the resolution of student issues in content area, such as academic appeals and readmissions of returning students as needed.
  • Ensure ongoing communication and alignment between administration and content area team.
  • Collaborate with other allied health programs and students, specifically in helping facilitate a cohesive and seamless bridge pathway to the graduate programs.
  • Identify, secure and manage new partnerships with healthcare systems, community-based providers, and key external stakeholders-including businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, and professional associations-to increase access to internships, broader clinical training, and practicum sites at NLU.
  • Develop and implement an Industry Advisory Council to ensure curriculum and coursework aligns with relevant industry standards and content.
  • In collaboration with the Enrollment and Outreach Departments, create and implement a plan to increase enrollment using a variety of strategies with targeted audiences identified.
  • In collaboration with Career Bridge, build employer networks to offer a wide range of job opportunities and internships for our students after graduation.
  • Teach a minimum of 15 QH courses annually, with potential adjustments made based on scope and complexity of work each year.
  • Facilitate courses by delivering engaging instruction in a blended and/or online environment.
  • Empower students to develop competency by sharing a passion for the subject and skills being taught.
  • Utilize technology-based teaching platforms.
  • Communicate professionally and relate well.
