Director, AI – Americas

DP WorldCharlotte, NC
Hybrid

About The Position

The Director, AI - Americas is responsible for both the strategic direction and hands-on delivery of artificial intelligence across DP World's Americas business. Strategy here means knowing where AI creates real business value, building the roadmap to get there, and making it happen. Personally. This is a role for someone who thinks at the program level and works at the delivery level. The Director will work directly with leaders across the full Americas business, spanning Ports & Terminals, Contract Logistics, Freight Forwarding, and corporate functions including HR, Finance, and Technology, to identify and prioritize AI opportunities, define the regional AI roadmap, design and deploy practical solutions, and drive measurable adoption in day-to-day operations. Working within the Core Platforms team and in close partnership with the Regional Transformation function, this role bridges business need and technology execution. This role starts as an individual contributor with influence. The successful candidate can navigate a matrixed global organization, engage external partners and contractors to extend capacity, and work effectively with Group Technology to align regional delivery with global standards. As the AI function matures, this role is expected to grow with it.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Data, Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree a plus but not required if experience is strong
  • 8 to 12 years of technology experience, with at least 3 to 5 years focused on AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics in an applied enterprise context
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering AI or analytics solutions into production environments in complex organizations, beyond proof of concepts
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders to define problems, design solutions, and drive adoption
  • Experience managing external vendors, system integrators, or contractors in a delivery capacity
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in The United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to logistics, supply chain, ports, warehousing, or asset-intensive operations is a strong advantage
  • Experience operating in a global matrixed organization and working effectively with centralized technology teams is highly valued

Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with leaders across the full Americas business, spanning Ports & Terminals, Contract Logistics, Freight Forwarding, and corporate functions including HR, Finance, and Technology, to surface practical, high-value AI opportunities
  • Translate operational and commercial problems into defined AI use cases with clear business cases, success criteria, and measurable outcomes
  • Prioritize based on business impact, data readiness, and execution feasibility rather than technology novelty
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of each AI initiative
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of AI solutions from scoping and design through build, testing, deployment, and adoption
  • Hands-on in prototyping, solution design, and early-stage delivery to accelerate outcomes, while leveraging vendors and partners for scaled execution
  • Deploy and manage AI applications including predictive analytics, optimization models, generative AI tools, and automation use cases
  • Ensure solutions are production-grade: explainable, reliable, secure, and embedded into real operational workflows
  • Manage vendors and contractors used to extend delivery capacity, maintaining accountability for quality and outcomes
  • Support the regional AI program co-led with the Regional Transformation team (Carey Boone), executing against the defined pilot portfolio and roadmap
  • Manage delivery across confirmed pilots including Lead Management AI and AI-Enabled Warehouse Planning, and support expansion of the portfolio
  • Coordinate with Group Technology (Sangam Reddy, Anand Xavier, Chacko Verghese's organizations) to align regional delivery with global AI standards, shared platforms, and approved tooling
  • Maintain a disciplined, outcome-driven delivery approach with clear tracking of value realized vs. projected
  • Maintain visibility across AI activity happening at the business unit and country level throughout the Americas region, whether centrally initiated or locally driven
  • Establish a lightweight coordination model that allows BUs and country teams to pursue AI initiatives while ensuring alignment with regional standards, security requirements, and enterprise architecture
  • Prevent duplication. Where the same problem is being solved in multiple locations, consolidate, share, or standardize the approach rather than allowing parallel efforts to diverge
  • Define and communicate clear standards for how AI solutions should be built, evaluated, and operated in the region, covering data handling, security, model governance, vendor selection, and integration patterns
  • Act as the regional point of coordination with Group Technology on AI standards and approved tooling, translating global requirements into practical guidance for BU and country teams
  • Support and enable BU-level execution where it makes sense. The goal is not central control of everything but ensuring that distributed execution happens in a consistent, secure, and scalable way
  • Identify opportunities to promote reuse of solutions, components, or vendor relationships across business units to reduce cost and accelerate delivery
  • Work within the Core Platforms team to ensure AI workloads have appropriate infrastructure, tooling, security controls, and operational support
  • Align AI solution design with existing platforms including Oracle Fusion, Cargoes Runner, Zodiac, and approved cloud environments
  • Flag dependencies, constraints, and integration requirements early and work through them proactively
  • Identify and document data requirements for each use case, working with data owners across business and technology to ensure access, quality, and readiness
  • Maintain working knowledge of the Americas data landscape including key sources, gaps, and governance constraints
  • Partner with Group and Enterprise teams on data governance and quality practices required to support AI delivery
  • Drive genuine adoption of AI solutions, not just deployment. Ensure business users understand, trust, and embed AI outputs into their decisions and workflows
  • Develop lightweight training and enablement materials tailored to business audiences, not technical teams
  • Identify and resolve adoption barriers proactively, escalating where needed
  • Navigate a complex, matrixed environment involving Americas regional leadership, Group Technology, and global functional pillars
  • Influence without direct authority by earning credibility through delivery, communication, and follow-through
  • Represent Americas AI delivery in cross-functional and Group-level forums as required
