EO/AA The Director, Advanced Practice Clinicians, provides strategic direction, and coordination for APC practice across University of Utah Health. This role is responsible for advancing a high-performing APC workforce through standardization of practice, workforce planning, and development of care delivery models. It develops and advances a system-wide APC culture that strengthens engagement, professional fulfillment, and collaboration across clinical specialties and care settings. Reporting to the Associate Chief Clinical Officer, this position operates within a matrixed environment and partners with clinical, operational, and administrative leadership to support alignment of APC practice across inpatient and ambulatory settings. This role supports APCs across the system and does not supersede the operational or clinical authority of departmental Chairs, or other local leadership. Requirements

Current licensure/certification as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Certified Nurse Midwife in the state of Utah.
Master’s degree in a clinical or related field.
Five (5) years of APC clinical experience.
Three (3) years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting.

Experience in an academic medical center or integrated health system.

Responsibilities

Leads development and execution of enterprise-wide APC workforce strategies, including onboarding, development, and retention initiatives.
Establishes standardized onboarding and transition-to-practice programs across specialties and care settings.
Develops structured career pathways to support workforce sustainability and professional growth.
Partners with leadership on workforce planning, role design, and care model optimization.
Oversees development of training programs, including clinical competency frameworks, continuing education, and leadership development.
Collaborates with the Office of Clinical Affairs to ensure alignment with credentialing, privileging, and scope of practice requirements.
Supports development of fellowship and pipeline programs to strengthen workforce readiness.
Benchmarks programs against peer organizations to support continuous improvement.
Partners with Human Resources and departmental leadership to support recruitment strategies across care lines.
Implement retention strategies, including workforce engagement initiatives and feedback mechanisms.
Monitors workforce metrics such as turnover, vacancy rates, and time-to-fill, and provides recommendations to leadership.
Supports alignment of APC compensation structures in collaboration with executive leadership.
Serves as a system-level resource to promote alignment of APC practice across departments and clinical programs.
Participates in enterprise committees, councils, and leadership forums.
Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and administrative leaders to support coordinated care delivery models.
Contributes to development of policies, standards, and performance measures related to APC practice.
Supports initiatives related to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Maintains an active clinical practice (approximately 40%) consistent with specialty training.
Demonstrates clinical credibility and supports alignment of practice standards through direct patient care.
