About The Position

As the Directional Drill Operator, you will be responsible for safely operating directional drilling equipment, locating underground utility paths, and supporting telecommunications construction activities. You will operate heavy equipment, perform drilling operations, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. As a key member of the construction team, you will contribute to successful project completion through safe equipment operation, quality workmanship, and adherence to company and industry safety standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience operating directional drilling equipment and underground utility locating equipment.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment near active utilities.
  • Experience working in telecommunications construction or related utility construction environments.
  • Ability to safely operate directional drilling equipment and other heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and jobsite requirements.
  • Knowledge of basic construction practices, shoring methods, utility locating procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crews, supervisors, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain one.
  • DOT Medical Card or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience operating Ditch Witch and Vermeer drilling equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate directional drilling equipment and other construction equipment in compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Drill and locate predetermined paths while avoiding underground utilities and obstacles.
  • Perform equipment setup, breakdown, loading, unloading, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Assist with additional construction activities including conduit placement, proofing conduits, potholing utilities, rigging, concrete work, and asphalt placement.
  • Inspect equipment, review jobsite conditions, and communicate project details and progress with supervisors.
  • Follow OSHA, ANSI, company policies, procedures, and safety standards while working in active construction environments.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
