About The Position

At MasTec Communications Group, a Directional Drill Operator/Locator supports directional drilling for the installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable. The role involves locating the drill head and guiding the driller along the planned route. Existing utilities are marked and located by their owners before work begins, while the crew identifies and potholes utilities ahead of drilling.

The position works with a team to install coax and fiber systems, protect the public and underground utility facilities, and transport heavy equipment to and from job sites. Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility directional drilling experience in an urban environment.
• Experience with different-sized Vermeer or Ditch Witch drills.
• Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a DOT medical card for driving purposes.
• CDL A required; applicants are subject to an MVR review and must meet company standards for a safe driving record.
• Commitment to safety and a track record of completing quality work.

Responsibilities

• Locate a horizontal directional drill for the installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable.
• Operate a horizontal directional bore with the Drill Locator to install coax and fiber systems.
• Ensure the safety of the public and other underground utility facilities.
• Read utility information and coordinate daylighting of utility facilities.
• Transport heavy equipment to and from the job site each day.
