About The Position

At MasTec Communications Group, a Directional Drill Operator/Locator supports directional drilling for the installation of underground conduit and fiber-optic cable. The role operates horizontal directional drilling equipment in coordination with a drill locator to install coax and fiber systems, with a strong focus on safety and quality. The position involves transporting heavy equipment to and from job sites, supporting telecom projects of varying durations, and traveling 100% of the time on rotation, excluding PTO and holidays.

Requirements

At least 2 years of utility directional drilling experience in an urban environment.
Experience with different-sized Vermeer or Ditch Witch drills.
Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process.
Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
Safety-minded approach to work.
Track record of completing work with a high level of quality.

Responsibilities

Locate a horizontal directional driller for the installation of underground conduit and fiber-optic cable.
Operate a horizontal directional bore in collaboration with the Drill Locator to install coax and fiber systems.
Ensure the safety of the public and other underground utility facilities.
Read utility locates and coordinate the daylighting of facilities.
Transport heavy equipment to and from the job site each day.
Travel 100% of the time on rotation, excluding PTO and holidays.
Support various telecom projects of varying durations.
