Direct Support Professional, Independent Living Programs
About The Position

We are currently accepting applications for part-time Direct Support Professionals to join our Independent Living Services team in Thousand Oaks, CA. In this role, you'll teach independent living skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes. This could include cooking and grocery shopping, healthy living and exercise, budgeting and money management, scheduling medical appointments, or other skills depending on the individual's personal goals. PathPoint is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people flourish. We partner with children, adults, and families to foster hope, build life skills, access support systems, and form meaningful relationships. We serve communities across Kern, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Patience, compassion, and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, social workers, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
- Must have a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, 5 years of driving experience, and be eligible for coverage on PathPoint's auto insurance policy.
- Culturally aware, acknowledges diverse employee backgrounds, possesses skills to collaborate across cultures, and avoids biased assumptions based on cultural differences.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience supporting or instructing individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required; if you are interested in this job but do not have directly relevant experience, we'd still love to hear from you!
Responsibilities
- Work independently with individuals one-on-one in their homes.
- Opportunity to share your personal hobbies with the individuals you are supporting if they are aligned with that person's goals and interests.
- Document hours of service provided and progress toward established goals.
