About The Position
Alternatives, Inc. in Phillipsburg, NJ is looking to hire a part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver to support adults with developmental disabilities. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive difference in the community by supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to live with dignity and respect. The position involves supporting residents in a residential group home with activities of daily living, assisting in the implementation of individual behavioral plans, teaching new skills, encouraging interests, and facilitating community outings. The role requires conscientious reporting of concerns and accurate documentation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
- Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
- Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
- Basic computer skills

- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
- Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans.
- Teach new skills and help residents achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
- Encourage resident interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on individual preferences and behavioral plans.
- Report any concerns about resident health and safety.
- Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date.
