About The Position

Alternatives, Inc. in South Bound Brook, NJ is looking to hire a part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver to support adults with developmental disabilities. The role involves supporting individuals to live their best lives as independently as possible, ensuring their comfort and safety in a residential group home setting. Responsibilities include assisting residents with daily living activities, administering medication, cooking, personal hygiene, transportation to medical appointments, and implementing individual behavioral plans. The position also involves teaching new skills, encouraging interests, facilitating community outings, and maintaining accurate documentation. The company has been providing support services for over 40 years and has expanded its coverage area to multiple counties, emphasizing a person-centered philosophy to promote independence and community integration.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
  • Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
  • Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans.
  • Teach new skills and help clients achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Encourage client interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on individual preferences and behavioral plans.
  • Report any concerns about client health and safety.
  • Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date.
