About The Position
People Creating Success is hiring a Direct Support Professional to support adults with developmental disabilities in its supported living and independent living service programs in Santa Barbara. The role focuses on building genuine relationships, empowering participants, promoting independence, and helping them pursue their personal goals and interests. The position involves supporting participants with daily living and personal care, encouraging hobbies and social activities, assisting with community participation, and collaborating on person-centered care plans. Staff also track progress and maintain accurate shift documentation. The employer offers part-time and full-time schedules, with flexible morning, evening, and overnight shifts.
Requirements
- Compassionate, person-centered mindset.
- Ability to communicate with dignity and respect, especially during challenging moments.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Responsible and able to assist with tracking progress toward goals.
Nice To Haves
- Weekend availability is a plus but is not required.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification; training will be provided if not certified or recertification is needed.
Responsibilities
- Support participants with daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking, and budgeting.
- Encourage and model independence, hobbies, and social activities.
- Assist participants in accessing and participating in community activities.
- Assist with personal care, including medication support, hygiene, and bathing; lifting or transferring may be required.
- Collaborate with participants on person-centered care planning.
- Record progress toward care plan goals.
- Support individuals through heightened emotional responses, complex behaviors, and sensory overload using proactive redirection and calming techniques.
- Recognize early signs of stress or escalation and guide individuals through personalized self-regulation strategies.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed shift logs and progress notes.
