About The Position

The Direct Support Professional at North Metro Community Services Inc is dedicated to providing compassionate and individualized support to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role is essential in assisting clients to achieve their personal goals, enhance their independence, and improve their quality of life through tailored support and advocacy. Provides support to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities by presenting opportunities to access the community, creating a positive environment, and assisting with daily living activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in healthcare or social services are a plus.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a direct care role, preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in implementing individualized care plans and providing personal care assistance.
  • Familiarity with community services and resources available for individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Proficiency in documenting and reporting client progress and incidents.
  • Capability to manage challenging behaviors and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and communication purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic ability to drive a large passenger van.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
  • Implement individualized support plans designed to help clients reach their personal goals and enhance their independence.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment by maintaining open communication with clients, families, and other team members.
  • Encourage and facilitate community involvement and social interactions to promote clients' integration and participation in society.
  • Monitor and document clients' progress, behaviors, and any changes in their condition, providing regular reports to supervisors and healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about best practices in support and care for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Transport people safely to and from the Day Program and community activities in a company vehicle.
  • Provide opportunities for community access by attending and participating in community activities and events.
  • Clean and sanitize a multitude of surfaces and locations.
  • Distribute medication to people safely and accurately.
  • Communicate clearly with others in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Assist people with mobility and transfer according to safety protocols.
