About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role involves advocating for and supporting adults aged 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to lead active lives. This support encompasses various daily living activities such as household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and personal hygiene. DSPs also assist individuals with medical appointments, banking, community integration, and outings. Key responsibilities include administering medications, following Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and medical guidelines. Venture provides comprehensive paid training for DSP workers, including New Employee Orientation, CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP), along with program and person-specific training conducted at the individuals' homes. DSPs are required to maintain certifications, comply with Agency policies, and adhere to all DDS regulations and policies, including the ability to safely evacuate individuals during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • Possess reliable transportation.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives.
  • Varied interests and personal connections in the local community.
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history).
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team.
  • Possess the knowledge, skills and abilities listed and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and individuals supported, which may include holidays, overnights, or double shifts.

  • Follow medical guidelines.
  • Safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency.
  • Maintain certifications.
  • Handle job related duties in compliance with Agency policies.
  • Follow all DDS regulations/policies.
