About The Position

Direct Support Professionals provide in-home residential services to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The role involves working one-on-one with individuals in their homes to help them accomplish goals in the least restrictive setting. The position is in person in Chesterfield, Virginia, with a stated schedule of Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent coursework.
One year of experience caring for individuals with developmental or physical disabilities.
Valid driver’s license and current, valid auto insurance.
Reliable computer for completing documentation.
Current negative two-part PPD test.
CPR and First Aid.
Medicaid Waiver Competency.
Eligibility for a criminal background check and Central Registry check.
Understanding of the medical field and terminology, including working with families, physicians, therapists, and pharmacists.
Organizational and problem-solving skills.
Flexibility.
Knowledge of the regulatory agencies for these services: DMAS and DBHDS.

Responsibilities

Support individuals with budgeting and managing their money.
Guide individuals in completing necessary hygiene and household tasks.
Engage individuals in social activities and support community access.
Ensure individuals’ health and safety.
Complete daily progress notes and quarterly reports describing individual progress.
Follow outcomes and goals in Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
Attend in-service training sessions, workshops, and biweekly supervision sessions, documenting individual progress.
Maintain client confidentiality in all settings.
Facilitate conflict resolution as needed.
Attend physician appointments, SIS assessments, and annual meetings related to individual goals.
