About The Position

Direct support professionals (DSPs) make a difference by assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with their daily needs and activities. Through the care provided, residents have the opportunity to reach their greatest level of independence. DSPs are involved in various community activities, including assisting with shopping, accompanying individuals to local events, and providing training and assistance. This role is interactive and active, with each day being different. Filling Homes is a faith-based community that provides physical and emotional support to those living with developmental and intellectual challenges, aiming to serve with compassion and integrity by supporting the journey toward new life skills and goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred but not necessary)
  • Willingness to learn
  • Effective verbal and written communication and comprehension skills
  • Positive and caring attitude
  • Must be able to read and write with good comprehension.
  • Must have genuine interest in working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrate patience and good judgement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with their daily needs and activities.
  • Assist with routine daily activities in a group home setting.
  • Help residents with dining, mobility, and hygiene activities.
  • Accompany residents to run errands.
  • Accompany residents to special community occasions and fun activities like outdoor walks, games, and social events.
  • Sit down to talk and connect with residents.
