About The Position
Alternatives, Inc. in Phillipsburg, NJ is looking to hire a part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver to support adults with developmental disabilities. The role focuses on helping individuals live their best lives as independently as possible, ensuring their comfort and safety. This involves assisting residents in a group home setting with daily living activities, implementing behavioral plans, teaching new skills, encouraging interests, and facilitating community outings. Accurate documentation and reporting of health and safety concerns are also key aspects of the position. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
- Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
- Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
- Basic computer skills
- Compassionate
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Desire to make a difference
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
- Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans.
- Teach new skills and help residents achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
- Encourage residents' interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on individual preferences and behavioral plans.
- Report any concerns about residents' health and safety.
- Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date.
