About The Position

Venture Community Services provides support to individuals facing diverse challenges through a compassionate and dedicated workforce using innovative practices that encourage independence, empowerment, and opportunity. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to be as active in their lives as possible. This support includes, but is not limited to, assistance with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and teeth brushing. DSPs may also assist individuals with medical appointments, banking, community integration, outings, medication administration, and adherence to Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, goals, and medical guidelines. DSP workers receive paid New Employee Orientation, paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP) training, as well as program and person-specific training at the individuals’ home. DSPs must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in emergencies and must maintain certifications, handle job-related duties in compliance with Agency policies, and follow all DDS regulations/policies.

Requirements

  • Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history)
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team
  • Must be 21+ years old
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and individuals supported, including holidays, overnights, or double shifts
  • Be available by telephone for daily contact

Responsibilities

  • Safely evacuate individuals from the home in emergencies
  • Maintain required certifications
  • Handle job-related duties in compliance with Agency policies
  • Follow all DDS regulations and policies
