This position involves supervising, instructing, and assisting residents in daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene. The Direct Support Professional provides individualized care, active treatment, and appropriate documentation under professional direction. They must engage in age-appropriate interactions with clients during structured and unstructured activities, focusing on individual needs. Responsibilities include participating in in-service training, housekeeping duties in residents' living quarters, planning and guiding social, recreational, work, community, and study activities. The role also involves addressing residents' daily problems and feelings, reporting observations on individual behavior, and participating in staff meetings as part of the interdisciplinary team. Additionally, the DSP will transport residents to community activities, work cooperatively with all personnel, and perform duties in other areas or take hospital trips when coverage is needed at the Supervisor’s direction. They will also requisition Maintenance/Housekeeping Services as needed, promote a positive self-image and residents' development, ensure resident safety by maintaining a safe living environment, and provide written reports on residents' progress and program effectiveness. The DSP participates in training programs from all disciplines and follows through with these programs. They will devise, implement, and document goal plans emphasizing skill development with objectives consistent with assessed needs and specified developmental services and programs, including Behavior Management Plans and other required documentation. The role also includes requisitioning clothing and inventorying residents’ personal belongings, and performing related work as required.
