About The Position

The Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is seeking dedicated, caring, and compassionate individuals to work in their Group Homes as Direct Support Professionals/Residential Counselors. This role is crucial in assisting and supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to meet their personal health, safety, and welfare needs. The position involves helping residents with daily living activities, including personal care, household tasks, and life skills development. Additionally, the role includes administering or assisting with medication, driving residents to various appointments and activities, and maintaining daily documentation of services provided. The DPD is a large Catholic Charities Agency and a significant provider of care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Requirements

  • Motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of our residents at all times.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid (non-provisional) driver's license.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and our emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Must attend a monthly Staff Meeting (date/time to be determined and announced in advance).
  • All offers of employment are contingent on the successful completion/passing of our criminal background/references/DMV check, fingerprinting, pre-employment physical and drug test, etc.

  • Experience with ID/DD population is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care areas such as bathing and toileting.
  • Participate and/or supervise in cleaning, cooking, and life skills activities.
  • Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and residents.
  • Drive residents to/from day programs, outside, and within their community using agency vehicles.
  • Provide daily documentation of services provided.
  • Assist with community-based activities.
