About The Position
Mozaic (A Chapter of The Arc NY) is seeking a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) Trainer. The Direct Support Professional Trainer is responsible for assisting Direct Support Professionals in successfully applying the knowledge and skills gained in classroom-based training to their day-to-day work. This role ensures that learning is effectively transferred into practice by providing guidance, coaching, and real-time support in the work setting. As a subject matter expert, mentor, and coach, the DSP Trainer reinforces organizational standards, state regulations, and best practices while promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth for staff supporting individuals supported by Mozaic.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A valid New York driver's license is required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a DSP or in a similar role within IDD services.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to adapt training methods to diverse learning styles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and learning management systems (LMS).
Nice To Haves
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in training, coaching, or staff development strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support newly hired Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in applying the skills and knowledge gained through DSP Skills Training, while reinforcing key concepts and providing ongoing opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Ensure all training programs meet state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Maintain accurate training records and monitor DSP certification requirements.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for DSPs, offering coaching, guidance on best practices, and support in overcoming workplace challenges.
- Partner with supervisors to identify training needs and address performance gaps.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, observation, and performance metrics.
- Continuously update training materials to reflect current regulations, best practices, and industry trends.
