About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (Residential) position is responsible for training, coaching, and supporting individuals to promote their independence and help them learn new skills. This role involves ensuring the highest level of independence for the individuals served and assisting them in acquiring new skills.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 1 year in human services or health care required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
  • Clean criminal, motor vehicle, and Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services background checks
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 100,000/300,000 liability insurance
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, or in a group setting
  • Demonstrate strong Customer Service skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Maintain a positive attitude including the use of positive language
  • Ability to individualize the supports needed for the individuals we serve
  • Ability to work with a variety of the individuals we serve on a daily basis
  • Ability to successfully complete the MOAB 1 and 2 trainings
  • Ability to successfully complete medication training if applicable
  • Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and daily assignments

Responsibilities

  • Remaining on shift until adequate coverage can be provided.
  • Consistent implementation of resident programming training, including daily living skills (bathing, dressing, meal preparation) and community access (shopping, leisure activities, concerts, sports).
  • Providing transportation for residents in agency-approved vehicles; may be required to use personal vehicles in emergencies.
  • Meeting all Residential Standards and Regulations as required by the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services and/or Moore Center Services, Inc.
  • Participating in the development of resident programs, such as Service Agreements, Behavior Programs, Strategies, and Client Centered Conferences.
  • Aiding in the general upkeep of the residence, furnishings, and equipment, including yard work, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Supervising residents’ self-administration and/or distributing and administering prescribed medications after successful completion of a medication training program and re-certification.
  • Supervising residents’ medical/evaluative appointments and accompanying residents to these appointments.
  • Maintaining appropriate record keeping and report writing, including Daily Logs, Resident Goal and Objective documentation, Significant Event Reports, Accident Reports, Behavior Programs, and filing.
  • Attending required meetings.
  • Reporting any pertinent client incidents or inconsistencies from routine.
  • Completing training behavior management programs prior to working with specific residents and consistently implementing and documenting interventions as indicated in programs.
  • Ensuring resident hygiene and appropriate attire at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by the House Manager.
