About The Position

The Direct Support Professional – Residential Aide provides direct care, supervision, and support to residents (people receiving services) in a residential setting. This role focuses on assisting individuals in developing independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), while ensuring health, safety, and overall well-being. DSPs actively participate in daily household management and serve as positive role models for residents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid NY State driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier require
  • Ability to lift and assist with up to 50 pounds (including transfers and physical support)

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and assistance to residents to develop and/or improve independent living skills such as cooking, housekeeping, laundry, and grocery shopping
  • Assist residents with personal care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, and hygiene
  • Provide supervision to residents in the home and community to ensure safety and well-being
  • Support residents in developing money management skills, including budgeting and making appropriate purchases
  • Administer medications and complete required documentation in accordance with agency policy and certification requirements
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and within designated timeframes, including progress notes, T-logs, and habilitation plans
  • Transport and accompany residents to medical appointments, recreational activities, and community outings
  • Provide training in mobility and community orientation
  • Assist residents with daily household operations and routine domestic tasks
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the residence, including common areas and resident spaces
  • Participate in assessments, service plan implementation, and team meetings as required
  • Maintain communication with supervisors regarding resident health, safety, and behavioral concerns
  • Act as a positive role model when teaching household, social, and community skills
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with residents, families, and team members
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures, including those related to safety, incident reporting, and confidentiality
  • Adhere to OPWDD regulations, including Part 633 (Consumer Rights) and Part 624 (Incident Reporting)
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and scheduled house meetings
  • Check and respond to agency email regularly during scheduled shifts
  • Report to work as scheduled and make every effort to maintain coverage during inclement weather conditions
