About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) with a minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, self-motivated, and confident in providing person-centered care while promoting independence, dignity, and community inclusion. This position requires an individual who can work independently, respond appropriately in challenging situations, mentor newer staff, and consistently maintain compliance with agency policies and Pennsylvania ODP Chapter 6400 regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of verifiable experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks and healthcare exclusion screenings.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong understanding of person-centered supports and trauma-informed care.

Nice To Haves

  • Medication Administration Certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex medical, behavioral, or physical support needs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining exceptional quality of care.
  • Experience training or mentoring new Direct Support Professionals is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, meal preparation, and mobility assistance.
  • Implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), Risk Management Plans, and healthcare plans.
  • Accurately administer or assist with medications in accordance with agency policy and applicable certification requirements.
  • Monitor individuals for changes in health, behavior, or emotional well-being and promptly report concerns.
  • Complete documentation thoroughly, accurately, and within required timeframes.
  • Promote independence, choice, self-advocacy, and community participation.
  • Safely transport individuals to medical appointments, work, recreational activities, and community outings.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized home environment.
  • Follow all incident reporting procedures and emergency response protocols.
  • Utilize positive behavior support techniques and de-escalation strategies when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate leadership by mentoring and supporting newly hired DSPs and assisting with on-the-job training when assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the rights of every individual served.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, nurses, program specialists, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ensure compliance with Pennsylvania ODP Chapter 6400 regulations and agency policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support quality care and program operations.
