This role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) engages in respectful communication, encourages socialization, and facilitates community connections. Key responsibilities include supervision, protection, and care of individuals, ensuring their health, wellness, and safety. The DSP supports individuals in various settings according to their individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing core competencies and adhering to safeguards like protective oversight and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs). The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe therapeutic environment, implementing infection control protocols, and assisting with daily living activities, personal care, medication administration, skill teaching, and meal preparation. Transportation of individuals for appointments and activities, and safeguarding personal funds are also part of the duties. The DSP will develop an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for person-specific needs, implement Behavior Support Plans, collect and record data on behavior, and report any changes to the clinical or leadership team. Collaboration within a team environment, completion of necessary trainings and certifications, and daily review and entry of communication logs and electronic health records are essential. The position requires adherence to all regulatory agency requirements, including HIPAA, and reporting maintenance and safety concerns. Consultation with program leadership and participation in team meetings are expected. The DSP will utilize approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques to respond to challenging behaviors and may provide coverage at other locations. Participation in treatment plan development and operating a YAI vehicle for transportation may be required for certain assignments. All other assigned duties are also part of the role.
