This position is responsible for assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The role involves supporting individuals to meet personal goals, encouraging socializing, and facilitating community connections. The Direct Support Professional ensures the health, wellness, and safety of individuals by providing appropriate supervision, managing crisis situations, and adhering to policies and regulations. They will support individuals in various settings according to their individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing support skills for people with varying levels of need and demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies. The role also includes maintaining a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment, utilizing safe handling procedures, and implementing infection control protocols. Specific tasks include assisting with personal care, ADLs, medication administration, teaching skills, supporting advocacy, facilitating communication, preparing meals, and transporting individuals. The DSP will develop an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for person-specific needs, implement Behavior Support Plans, collect and summarize data on behavior, and report any changes to the clinical or leadership team. They will serve as a member of a team, providing feedback and communicating programmatic needs. The role requires completing and maintaining necessary trainings and certifications, reviewing communication logs, and entering data into electronic health records. The DSP will also complete and review other required paperwork and documentation for compliance and billing. They will use foundational teaching skills and understand behavior as communication, employing person-centered thinking. Compliance with all Federal, State, Local, and regulatory agency requirements, including HIPAA, is mandatory. The DSP will report maintenance and safety concerns to program leadership and consult with program leadership, clinical, and other direct support staff to ensure quality care. They will utilize approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques to respond to challenging behaviors and may provide coverage for other staff, potentially at other locations. Participation in treatment plan development and operating a YAI vehicle may be required for certain assignments.
