This role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) engages in respectful communication, encourages socialization, and facilitates community connections. Key responsibilities include the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals, ensuring their health, wellness, and safety. The DSP supports individuals in various settings according to their individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing core competencies and adhering to safeguards. This includes implementing person-centered plans, maintaining a therapeutic environment, and utilizing safe handling procedures. The role also involves assisting with personal care, medication administration, teaching skills, communication support, meal preparation, and transportation. The DSP will develop an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for person-specific needs, implement Behavior Support Plans, collect and record data, and collaborate with a team. Documentation, training, and compliance with regulations like HIPAA are also essential. The position requires participation in team meetings, utilization of approved training techniques for challenging behaviors, and providing coverage as needed. For certain assignments, operating a YAI vehicle may be required.
