The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at the Yorktown IRA program will assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities while upholding their personal rights. This role involves providing emotional support, building positive relationships, and ensuring the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals. The DSP will support people in meeting personal goals, engage in respectful communication, and facilitate activities that connect individuals to the community. Key responsibilities include ensuring health, wellness, and safety, managing crisis situations, and implementing individualized service and behavior support plans. The role also involves maintaining a therapeutic environment, assisting with personal care and daily living activities, administering medication, teaching skills, and supporting person-centered advocacy. The DSP will also collect and record data on behavior, report changes to the clinical team, and collaborate as a member of a highly effective team. This position requires completing and maintaining all necessary trainings and certifications, reviewing communication logs, and completing all required documentation accurately and within timeframes. The DSP will utilize foundational teaching skills and understand behavior as communication to support positive interactions. Compliance with all regulatory agency requirements, including HIPAA, is essential. The DSP will report maintenance and safety concerns and consult with program leadership and staff to ensure quality care. The use of approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques for responding to challenging behaviors is required. The role may involve providing coverage at other locations and participating in the development of treatment plans. For certain assignments, operating a YAI motor vehicle may be required.
