About The Position

Carey Services is a community-based organization that provides support and services determined through person-centered planning, where individuals and their families direct the planning and allocation of resources to meet their individual life goals. As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will support individuals with diverse abilities, fostering independence and promoting a fulfilling life. This role offers personal and professional growth within a team committed to 'Turning abilities into opportunities.' The individuals served have a variety of intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities. The best part of the job is supporting individuals and watching them realize they belong and have value in the world. Activities may include going on outings, engaging with the community, playing games, watching movies, learning crafts, making art, and more.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Adequate automobile insurance
  • Meet agency insurability requirements
  • Able to learn basic principles of teaching (instruction provided)
  • Good basic mathematical computation skills
  • Good English Language writing knowledge
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop or stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to assist in lifting or transferring individuals to and from wheelchairs
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, gowns, face shields, shoes, ear plugs, etc.
  • Able to follow all required safe and universal precaution practices during a pandemic and as required otherwise
  • Must know first aid, health & safety measures or build an acceptable competence level by post-hire training as required by specific job requirements.

  • Doing arts, crafts and creative things together
  • Transporting individuals to and from facilities in compliance with safety regulations
  • Playing games and doing fun activities
  • Maintaining timely and accurate records for billing, notes and other documentation.
  • Provides direct support, instruction, and assistance to persons with disabilities (I/DD) living in the community.
  • Ensuring health and safety, community inclusion, and daily living skills.
