About The Position

The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team that delivers superior quality of service and provides appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting. This role involves assisting clients with basic living skills, daily personal tasks, and providing transportation. The DSP is responsible for maintaining communication between staff, completing required documentation, and adhering to medication management guidelines. They also organize recreational activities, act as a role model, and assist in maintaining facilities and vehicles. Confidentiality and adherence to quality assurance procedures are paramount.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two+ years' experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must provide proof of liability insurance and keep current.
  • May be required to undergo periodic driving test and demonstrate proficiency in the operation of a motor vehicle, including passenger vans.
  • Employees may also be required to drive his/her personal vehicle at times and maintain adequate liability coverage on any personal vehicle used to transport participants.

  • Valid Arkansas Driver's License is required for providing transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Clients in basic living skills and daily personal tasks, including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and financial budgeting.
  • Provides transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed.
  • Maintains good communication between staff regarding clients' needs and progress toward their plan of care.
  • Accurately completes all required documentation, including Behavioral Reports, Incident Reports, Compliant Forms, Personal Care Work Sheets, Requisitions, Maintenance Forms, Progress Reports, and Monthly Attendance Logs.
  • Strictly follows and completes necessary documentation and maintenance of records for FTA vehicles and maintains all mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
  • Reports incidents and/or emergencies to supervisors or delegated authorities immediately.
  • Assists in the formulation, management, revision and follow-through of the client’s Plan of Care.
  • Follows proper medication management guidelines and assists in the monitoring and documentation of these procedures.
  • Organizes and carries out recreational activities for the clients.
  • Acts as a role model for clients through appropriate physical appearance, adherence to dress code, and appropriate actions.
  • Treats clients and their families with dignity and respect.
  • Assists in the maintenance of facilities and grounds, keeping them clean, orderly and functioning.
  • Assists in the maintenance of vehicles ensuring cleanliness and regular preventive maintenance.
  • Attends necessary training and continues education.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information received regarding Friendship Community Care, Inc. and the clients.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures.
  • Maintains consumers' progress notes daily or as needed on prescribed forms.
  • Maintains consumers' records weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
  • Files all information in consumers’ records as needed and updates as prescribed by funding sources.
