About The Position

Direct Support Professionals teach, encourage, and support people with disabilities to live rewarding lives. This is an entry-level position that can lead to a rewarding career. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will support day program members clients in a variety of community settings. The role involves providing meaningful, educational, and supportive services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receiving community-based services. The DSP will support an environment where members are healthy, safe, and valued by assisting them in learning and exploring their community and personal interests according to their person-centered support plan or personal goals. This role also includes assisting members with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care and hygiene or moving to and from a wheelchair. The DSP must comply with all PPCH policies and the rules and regulations of all State and Federal oversight agencies, maintain respectful and professional relationships with members, guardians, family members, team members, and other staff, and attend PPCH team, staffing, and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed or requested.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • To successfully complete the required training provided by PPCH.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite or other similar software is required.
  • Must be able to document all services provided in PPCH systems, as trained.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with effective listening skills, even when non-traditional communication is used.
  • Must be able to respectfully address issues of health and safety while supporting an individual’s choices and maintaining their dignity.
  • Able to work and adhere to your schedule independently with little or no direct supervision, holding yourself accountable to deadlines.
  • A current, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PPCH’s driving requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with adults with development or intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience working within the Colorado Developmental Disabilities system.
  • The ability to safely operate a 15-passenger van.

Responsibilities
