About The Position

Mary Cariola Center is seeking a part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide community habilitation services. This role involves facilitating the active participation of residents in their habilitation plans within their family home, respite, and community settings. The DSP will engage in various tasks to support individuals, including physical assistance, promoting self-care, fostering communication, assisting with recreational activities, and implementing behavior support plans. Accurate documentation using PrecisionCare software and written forms is essential. The position also includes providing personal and physical care, performing housekeeping tasks, adhering to HIPAA and ethical standards, attending meetings, and implementing safety procedures. The agency provides necessary training and certifications.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
  • Ability to participate in various physical and recreation activities outside the residence
  • Possess a current and valid NYS driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

  • 6 months or more experience in similar role

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate active participation of the residents by implementing their habilitation plans in their family home, respite and/or community
  • Engage in any necessary lifting, moving and/or positioning tasks for individuals
  • Facilitate improved gross motor, fine motor and range of motion skills
  • Promote and help to facilitate self-care, activities of daily living and personal hygiene
  • Foster receptive and expressive communication through many different avenues including sign language, pictograms and electronic devices
  • Assist with recreational activities and facilitate active engagement in community outings
  • Implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r) accurately and consistently
  • Accurately and consistently complete all required documentation in a continuous manner by utilizing PrecisionCare software and in written form, when necessary
  • Facilitate and provide for the personal and physical care needed by each individual including bathing, toileting, dressing and eating as needed including modeling appropriate behavior, using therapeutic equipment and/or therapeutic feeding
  • Perform housekeeping tasks when needed (meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, shopping, etc.)
  • Follow HIPAA confidentiality laws
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for DSPs
  • Attend and actively participate in regular staff meetings, case reviews, in-service sessions and any other meetings as necessary
  • Implement fire, safety and emergency procedures in accordance with agency and program standards
  • Maintain certifications in Medication Administration, SCIP-r, CPR and First Aid
  • All other duties as assigned
