About The Position

Alternatives, Inc. in Somerset, NJ is looking to hire a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, Awake Overnight to support adults with developmental disabilities. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive difference in the community by supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to live with dignity and respect. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
  • Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
  • Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist adults with developmental disabilities in living their best lives as independently as possible.
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of each client.
  • Assist residents in a residential group home with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans.
  • Teach new skills and help clients achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Encourage client interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on individual preferences and behavioral plans.
  • Help clients find greater access to the community.
  • Report any concerns about client health and safety.
  • Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date.
