About The Position
Alternatives, Inc. in Hillsborough, NJ is looking to hire a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, Awake Overnight to support adults with developmental disabilities. This role is for individuals passionate about the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities to live with dignity and respect. The current available opportunity is for a schedule including Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11 pm to 9 am. Alternatives, Inc. has been providing support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those with mental illnesses for over 40 years, offering residential, behavior support, support coordination, and recreation services. They focus on enabling clients to reach their highest level of independence and community integration through a person-centered philosophy. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
- Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
- Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
- Basic computer skills
- Compassionate
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
- Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans.
- Teach new skills and help clients achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
- Encourage client interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on individual preferences and behavioral plans.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of each client.
- Report any concerns about client health and safety.
- Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date.
