This role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports people to meet personal goals, engages in respectful communication, and facilitates activities that foster community connections. Key responsibilities include the supervision, protection, and care of individuals, ensuring their health, wellness, and safety, and managing crisis situations. The DSP provides support in various settings according to individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing core competencies and implementing person-centered plans. This includes maintaining a clean and safe environment, utilizing safe handling procedures, and assisting with personal care, medication administration, skill development, and communication. The role also involves developing an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge, implementing behavior support plans, collecting data, and collaborating with clinical and leadership teams. The DSP is a member of a highly effective team, completes necessary trainings and documentation, and uses teaching skills to support positive interactions. Compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, is essential. The DSP reports maintenance and safety concerns, consults with program leadership, and utilizes approved intervention techniques. They may provide coverage for other staff, participate in treatment plan development, and operate YAI vehicles for transportation as needed. All other duties as assigned.
