This role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will support people to meet personal goals, engage in respectful communication, and encourage social connections within the community. Key responsibilities include ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals, facilitating learning, managing crisis situations, and adhering to individualized service and behavior support plans. The DSP will maintain a therapeutic environment, implement infection control protocols, and assist with daily living activities such as personal care, hygiene, and housekeeping. Medication administration, teaching skills, and supporting self-advocacy are also crucial aspects of the role. The position requires developing an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for specific needs, implementing Behavior Support Plans, and collecting data on individual behavior. Teamwork, communication, and maintaining accurate documentation are essential. The DSP will also be responsible for completing necessary trainings and certifications, complying with regulatory requirements like HIPAA, and reporting facility concerns. Collaboration with program leadership and clinical staff is expected, as is the utilization of approved intervention techniques for challenging behaviors. The role may involve providing coverage at other locations and potentially operating a YAI vehicle for transportation. All other assigned duties are also part of the role.
