This position is responsible for the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals at all times. The role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, and providing emotional support. The Direct Support Professional will support people to meet personal goals, encourage socializing, and facilitate community connections. Key responsibilities include ensuring health, wellness, and safety by managing crisis situations, implementing individualized service and behavior support plans, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment. The role also involves assisting with personal care, medication administration, teaching skills, supporting advocacy, facilitating communication, preparing meals, and transporting individuals. The Direct Support Professional will develop an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge for person-specific needs and implement Behavior Support Plans. They will collect and summarize data on individuals' behavior, report any changes to the clinical and/or leadership team, and serve as a member of a highly effective team. This role requires completing necessary trainings and certifications, reviewing communication logs, and maintaining accurate documentation using electronic health records. The Direct Support Professional will use foundational teaching skills and understand behavior as communication to support positive interactions. They must comply with all regulatory agency requirements, including HIPAA, and report maintenance and safety concerns. Consultation with program leadership and active participation in team meetings are expected. The role requires utilizing approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques to respond to challenging behaviors and may involve providing coverage for other staff or participating in the development of treatment plans. For certain assignments, operating a YAI motor vehicle may be required.
